Social Studies is getting reviews!
Thinking about the Native American project in Social Studies? Many kids are showing good response to this assignment. It's creative and there's no written piece involved, one of the main reasons this project is a big hit with the kids. There's a canoe, dreamcatcher, travois, totem pole, loom and many other things to build. Or are you thinking about camouflage in Science? Here's an experiement to do. You'll need:
- A bush
- Some green clothes
- A friend, parent or someone
You'll do:
- Stand in front of the bush with the green clothes on, without the other person looking.
- Tell them to look.
- Ask them if they can see you.
- If they can, try again. If they can't, good job!
Here's a float and sink experiment:
You'll need:
-A tub of fizzy water like club soda
- Raisins
- Popcorn Kernels
- Sweet Tarts or Small Mints
You'll do:
- Fill the tub with fizzy water, like club soda.
- Put the raisins in, slowly, one at a time.
- Do they float or sink? What did they do?
- Put the popcorn kernels in, slowly, one at a time.
- Do they float or sink? What did they do?
- Put the sweet tarts or small mints in, slowly, one at a time.
- Do they float or sink? What did they do?
Whatever you're thinking about in Social Studies, we hope it's good, just like most everyone else.

- The last instrumental music class of 2008 is on Friday, December 12, 2008. Instrumental music will resume January 9, 2009.

Lunchtime!
Many people buy lunch from school, but many also bring a lunchbox. If you're in charge of packing your lunch, try out these tips to make a great and healthy lunch.
- Why not pack a piece of fruit or a vegetable, like a carrot?
- Bring water or a low-sugar drink instead of sugary juice or soda. Or, Ms. Harriet is glad to let you just buy a milk.
- Experiment with Sandwiches. There are many combonations. Peanut Butter and Jelly, Ham and Cheese, Tuna Salad, Egg Fritata, the list is endless.
- On Pizza day, take leftover pizza from that last pizza party.
- Pack a small dessert that will give you carbohydrates, such as a granola bar or a small cookie or two.
And, here are some tips for those who buy lunch:
- Eat your lunch first, then have the dessert.
- If there's fruit or vegetable on the menu, go for it.
- Try 1% White Milk instead of Chocolate or Strawberry Milk.
- Only take what you think you can eat.
- Take small bites.

Save the Earth
Popular Kids Cable TV Channel Nickelodeon is starting a new program called the Big Green Help. Many kids have already dived into this program, and you can too, just by going to their website, at http://www.nick.com/. You can fight carbon dioxide (CO2) monsters. But let's not spoil the fun for everyone else. Everyday, however, you can help fight global warming. For example, when you leave a room, turn offf lights, fans or radios. When you're done with the computer, click on "Shut Down". When you brush your teeth, turn off the water. Another way to control Global Warming is to reduce waste, such as throwing out paper and plastic, when they can be recycled, or broken down and made into new things. Glass and batteries can also be recycled. But, check with a grown-up before recycling any batteries, which can start fires if they're not recycled properly. An even better way to reduce waster is to reuse things, like the other side of old test papers for scribbling paper or using empty jam, nut, or pickle jars to store other things like crayons or small toys. What do you do to help the enviornment? Tell us in the comment/opinion section of the site.
